Are you interested in being part of a Step Out mission team, but unsure what it would be like?

Well, what better than to ask a seasoned Step Out regular what it's really like?

Who are you, and which church are you from?
I’m Iain Black, and I’m from Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow. I go to Kirkintilloch Baptist Church and Lenzie Christian Fellowship.

How many years have you done Step Out, and how many mission weeks have you been on?
I first did Step Out 6 years ago, and have done at least one mission every year since! In total, I’ve been on 13 teams. I just can’t get enough!

Why did you apply to go on a Step Out team?
I applied because I really enjoy working with other Christians, spreading God’s word around Scotland. It’s also a great way to make friends and grow in faith.

How has Step Out helped you to grow as a Christian?
When I started doing Step-Out I was lacking in confidence and was really shy. Now if you met me, you’d see it’s obvious that that’s all changed! I’m much more comfortable with sharing my faith now.

What’s been your favourite moment on a Step Out team?
I’ve been on so many teams now that I can’t choose! I think my favourite part of being on a team is seeing the positive impact a Step Out week has on churches, kids, and young people, not to mention the team members themselves. Seeing people now doing Step Out who were once at the youth club events has been really great too. It’s a real encouragement to see others grow in their Christian lives.

We've moved on to the second section of the E100 Challenge now.

We're looking at well-known Bible characters, starting with Abram.

Having looked at the Genesis accounts of the beginning of the world, we now move on to the second section of the E100 Challenge. We’re still in Genesis, but our next few passages look at some well-known biblical characters: Abram, Issac, Jacob and Esau.

Our first passage in this section is Genesis 12:1-12:20, which looks at the call of Abram. Even if you know the story well, why not look at it afresh today? Maybe something will leap out from the page as your explore God’s word and discover how this fits in with the wider story we find as we reasd through the Bible.

You can find our more information about the E100 Challenge on the E100 Challenge overview page, which automatically updates with all the other passages as they go up on the site. It also gives a few helpful tips on getting the most out of studying the Bible too.

This is the fifth reading in the first section of the E100 Challenge. The people set about to build a tower.

If you're not already joining us, it's not too late to start!

We’ve been through creation, the fall, the flood and God’s covenant with Noah. Now we come to the conclusion of the first section of readings in the E100 Challenge entitled In The Beginning. The last reading in this section still comes from Genesis, as indeed the next two sections do as well!

So, part five is all about the Tower of Babel – Genesis 11:1-11:9. The people start to build a tower. It’s a very short reading, so we’ll just leave it for you to read for yourselves…

Do you have any questions about what you’ve been reading? Why not ask a question next to the post, or ask someone in your church? Even better, why not go through the E100 with someone else and study together?

You can find our more information about the E100 Challenge on the E100 Challenge overview page, which automatically updates with all the other passages as they go up on the site.
Have you been wondering what it would be like to be part of a Step Out mission team?

Toni Cameron from Lossiemouth Baptist tells us about her Step Out experience.

I’m Toni and I’m from Lossiemouth Baptist Church. I applied to go on a Step Out team because I became a Christian while a team were in Lossie in 2008, and that inspired me to go out and about and tell other kids and teenagers about Jesus. I’d been given a lot of encouragement from other youth in my church who had done step out to go for it too. :)

Step Out helped me grow as a Christian by teaching me so many more things about the Bible, and introducing me to loads of awesome new friends who I can turn to with problems; whether they be Christian ones or other ones.

It’s too difficult to pick out a favourite moment from Step Out, there were too many to choose from! I’m looking forward to being on more teams in 2011, and to introducing friends from my church to Step Out missions too. I’m also looking forward to seeing friends I made last year that live far away so I can’t see them that often.

I’m excited to see more children learn about Jesus, because I know how awesome he is :D

Doing Step Out for the first time was really scary, because I didn’t know what to expect. I was in a place I’d never even heard of before in an old creaky church, but fortunately I knew everyone on the team already:) The team were really supportive and easy to get along with, and so my first year of Step Out was really enjoyable and worthwhile.

We've seen God create the world, man rebel against God and God send a flood to cover the earth.

Join us as we see the next part of God's story - his covenant with Noah.

So we’ve seen the account of creation, how God made the world and it was good – and that he then made man, and it was very good. We’ve seen Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the way they allowed the serpent to lead them astray – to sin. We’ve seen the way they didn’t trust God and how that caused them to be thrown out of Eden, separated from God. Then, we saw how there was so much sin on earth that God was sorry that he had made what he had, and how he sent the flood to cover the earth. But we also saw how Noah found favour with God; he was warned of the flood, told to build an Ark to shelter him, his family and more than a few animals during the time the earth was covered in water.

So now, we turn to part four of the E100 Challenge – God’s covenant with Noah. This covers Genesis 8:1-9:17. We see the waters subsiding after the rain stops, and God promises never to destroy in the way he did with the flood again. Join with us as we read through this passage and if you’re not already doing so, why not join us for the rest of the year as we look at the overview of the Bible and how it fits together in this series?

You can find our more information about the E100 Challenge on the E100 Challenge overview page, which automatically updates with all the other passages as they go up on the site.
