Ministry

Ministry is a key element in the life of BUSY. We want to see the quality and quantity of work with young people increase in the Scottish Baptist Family.

Sports Day

The annual Youth Sports Day normally takes place at the end of May or the beginning of June every year at the campus of the Stirling University. Events include athletics, badminton, football, netball, swimming and table tennis. They are open to those under 25 years of age, and each event has age banding to try and keep competition as fair as possible. This year we have added in a younger age group in the swimming to encourage more swimmers to compete. Alongside the events there are a variety of activities running to keep people occupied (including large inflatables) and occasionally some trial sports as time and space permit.

Xtend

Xtend was a twelve month volunteer programme for Scottish young people where we paired volunteers up and place them in a Baptist Church in Scotland for twelve months to help the church develop its work with children and young people in their church and community. Exact responsibilities within each placement may vary slightly, but will include involvement in some or all of the following: Sunday School, mid-week children's and youth clubs, opportunities for schools work, establishing mentoring relationships and possibly representing young peoples views on BUS task groups. The year runs from mid-August to mid-August. There will be training included during the year, where all volunteers will meet together and learn. We envisage this being done in three blocks (probably end of August, beginning of January and beginning of June), and covering the following topics - working with children and youth, first-aid, child protection, mentoring, creative arts, etc.

We are currently unable to offer this option due to a change in the rules from the external funder in relation to faith based organisations. We hope in the future to be able to run this scheme, so if you are interested please contact the BUSY office.
