Mission

Mission is at the heart of the Baptist Union of Scotland, and at BUSY. We want to help Scottish Baptist Churches reach out to children and teenagers in their communities and beyond.

Step Out

Much of our mission activity at BUSY revolves around Step Out, the summer mission team programme. Each year we send a number of teams of young people (from 14 years old upwards) to a Baptist church somewhere in Scotland where they work in partnership with the local church to provide a week of activities.

Step Out begins with a training weekend in June where team members meet up to be trained for the summer as well as meet their team mates. The week of Step Out will be in either July or August where a team will traditionally assist the local church with it's outreach to children and/or teenagers, but occasionally other activities are asked for. Step Out climaxes with a reunion event in the autumn.

Thinking of joining a team?

If you are unsure what Step Out is all about, what it will involve doing, why not download a copy of the flyer which gives a bit more information to help you: Step Out Flyer for young people. You may also want to pass on copies of the flyer to other young people you know who may be up for the challenge.

We have also produced a helpful booklet called 'Step Out for Dummies' which gives a greater insight to what Step Out involves: Step Out For Dummies.

For churches considering partnering with a Step Out team during the school holidays, there is now a helpful idiots guide: The Idiot's Guide to Partnering with a Step Out Team

Step Out+

For some people, however, one week is not enough, and so for these people, we offer Step Out+. This is a whole summer of Step Out missions, and you even get an allowance! It's not for the faint-hearted, as you take part in six mission over seven weeks, but the exhaustion is only one side of it: it is also great fun, too. It is not compulsory to have taken part in a Step Out mission before.
